The mystery of the broken HTML installation has been solved. It’s actually twofold. First they had ajp13 running instead of http. And then they also had not configured their servers to understand a hostname consisting of a machine IP. It was only configured to access the application via the machine’s name.

Of course the setup they asked us to configure specifically listed the IP adresses as the destination host.

Since I first talked to them about this problem a week ago, they never bothered to check their servers until today. After I showed them proof of their mis-configuration.

Oh, and don’t think they ever said “Sorry” for accusing me for not configuring the reverse proxy correctly.
