Electricity blackout in a franchise in another city. Duration 5 minutes, causing a downtime of our country-wide backbone for 7 minutes. Our provider’s failover failed to fail-over. Various applications in this city’s branch of our parent corporation failed. Including time-critical ordering systems for spareparts and other materials.

It’s designated a “major outage”, with status report updates no later than every 30 minutes, on the minute. I am honestly impressed. And happy I have nothing to do with that outage. The applications we are operating there all survived the outage intact.
